Austrian News

31.03.2008: Austrian will continue to expand its services in the summer schedule 2008: as of the 2nd and 3rd of April, 3 weekly connections to the cities of Sochi and Nizhny Novgorod in Russia will be incorporated into the company’s programme of scheduled flights to Russia (which already include Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, and Rostov).  As of August 2008, flights to the Saudi Arabian destinations Riyadh and Jeddah will be available.

26.02.2008: As of April 21st, 2008, Austrian will offer 3 weekly flights (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) to the city of Baia Mare in Romania, the industrial capital for car manufacturing. Austrian already serves the following destinations in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Sibiu and Timisoara. The creation of this new connection confirms Austrian's role as a leader in providing flights to Eastern Europe.

19.02.2008: Starting in April 2008, Austrian Airlines will resume service to Erbil, Iraq (this route was opened in December 2006 but was suspended following a re-evaluation of the security situation in August 2007).  Three flights a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) are planned for April and May, and four a week (including Sundays) from June onwards. Austrian Airlines was the first airline company to obtain permission to fly to Iraq.

21.01.2008: In 2007, Austrian carried nearly 11 million passengers despite the reduction of long-haul routes in favour of medium- and short-haul flights.  For 2008, Austrian Airlines is expected to increase flight services to Eastern Europe.

17.01.2008: In the annual survey carried out by the specialist magazine Business Traveller, Austrian took 1st place in the “Food & Drink” category. In the area of “Best Airline Europe”, Austrian achieved 2nd place.  Austrian Economy Class took 1st place as “Best Short- and Medium haul Airline Europe”. The Airline also showed a top position in the Long-haul ranking.
These results prove that Austrian quality and service offensive is working, and being recognised by customers as amongst the best products in the industry today.
